Since November 2017, SHAREing and CAREing has been assisting two graduate students from The School of Visual Arts Design for Social Innovation program who are creating a thesis project that will provide support for cancer survivors.
Stephen Morrison and Hrudaya Yamandala approached us to learn about our grassroots work in our community—our health education and prevention programs, as well as our direct services for people impacted by cancer. They shadowed us at some outreaches. SHAREing & CAREing volunteers and staff have participated in several interviews with them. And our survivors have participated in early phases of this research as they assessed needs to determine where their project could be of most use. More recently, we have participated in brainstorming and information gathering to help them define and narrow their focus, and give shape to their project.
Right now they are prototyping and building to deliver in May the results of nearly a year of work—connecting cancer survivors with the reliable, specific support and info that they need as they navigate survivorship towards success in life and careers. It’s very exciting work!
Now we need YOUR help—the help of our amazing community of survivors!
To test out a piece of what they’re building (stay tuned for more soon on that!), they’ve created a brief online survey. Each response they get back helps to ensure they’re doing the best they can to support survivors. If you know of any other survivors who might spare a minute to also take part in this, please feel free to forward this on. It helps so much!
