Gratitude & Giving Thanks in NYC

Gratitude in the Heart of Queens

At SHAREing & CAREing, we serve the Queens and New York City community as a dedicated cancer non‑profit. We believe that gratitude strengthens resilience for survivors, caregivers, volunteers, and the broader support family alike. As we approach this Thanksgiving, we’d like to pause to recognize the many people and relationships that help uphold our mission of cancer support and early detection.

Celebrating Our Community of Support

In New York City and especially Queens, our work is only possible thanks to a wide‑ranging circle of support:

  • Our clients and survivors who entrust us during their cancer journeys and share their courage.
  • The many volunteers and bilingual staff who bring warmth, culture, and accessibility to our programs. (Our mission highlights that our staff are often survivors themselves and represent local communities.)
  • The physicians, local hospitals, and community partners who collaborate to bring what we do—free and low‑cost mammography, patient navigation, and survivorship programs—to life.
  • The donors, funders, and sponsors who provide the financial backing that allows us to deliver free services regardless of insurance status.

This Thanksgiving, we send a heartfelt “thank you” to every person who shares our commitment: to ensuring no one in Queens faces cancer alone, to reducing barriers, and to nurturing hope.

Gratitude in Action: What We’re Thankful For

Here are a few specific things we’re grateful for this year:

  • For the nearly thousands of individuals who accessed our education, screening reminders, and support services—bringing awareness and early detection to the forefront.
  • For the “family” culture within SHAREing & CAREing: individual counselling, survivor‑buddy programs, wellness groups, holiday gatherings.
  • For our Queens community, which continues to rally around each other through treatment, recovery, and advocacy—showing the strength of collective care.
  • For the spirit of Thanksgiving itself: a time to reflect, recharge, and recommit to our shared goals of health equity and support for under‑ and uninsured members of our city.

A Thanksgiving Invitation

We invite our clients, supporters, caregivers, survivors, and friends in New York City to join us in a moment of gratitude this holiday season. Whether you’re gathering with loved ones, volunteering, or simply taking a quiet moment, consider the following:

  1. Reach out: Send a note or make a call to someone who has supported you or someone you support. Gratitude is relational.
  2. Give a little time: In addition to financial support, consider offering your time or sharing your story at a support group or outreach event.
  3. Reflect on hope: For those in treatment or recovery, remember that gratitude doesn’t mean ignoring challenges. It means recognizing support, progress, and possibility.
  4. Plan for health: Gratitude also looks ahead, so use this season to schedule a screening, ask about self‑exams, or talk with your loved ones about prevention and early detection.

If you or someone you know in NYC or Queens is navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, or survivorship, reach out to SHAREing & CAREing for support.

If you’re interested in volunteering, partnering, or attending one of our upcoming wellness groups or Lunch & Learn sessions, we’d love to welcome you.

Wishing You a Meaningful Season

On behalf of our staff, board, volunteers, and survivor‑leaders, we wish you and your family a Thanksgiving filled with peace, connection, and renewed hope. Thank you for being part of our community and helping us stand strong in the face of cancer together.
